poker biggest pot ever

Why do some players make odd bet sizes?
I’m playing .25/.50 NL hold em. More and more I’m seeing people bet $1.73 into a $2 pot or $4.39 into a $5 pot. The only thing I can come up with is that I remember reading somewhere that those odd numbered bets look big because the different denomination chips make a bigger looking stack. Is this the reason why people make these bets? If so, it has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. Even if it isn’t, it’s becoming one of my online poker pet peeves. Is there any other reason anyone has?
I frequently bet inbetween the blind sizes. I find it annoys people, and they are more likely to call.
I think it makes the person betting appear to not know what they are doing since betting in multiples of the blinds is the norm.
It also seems to be that when a player annoys another player, that player has an urge to call them in an effort to knock them out of the game.
These are my beleifs and the reason i sometimes bet this way.
