Can I organize home poker tournaments in Virginia?
I want to know the rules/laws governing home poker in Virgina. I realize that a lot of people organize such events but am not sure if they are legal.
In almost every state it is legitimate and legal to have a home game in which friends play for low stakes. It becomes illegal if you charge a ‘rake’ or entry fee, or if the people playing are not known to you or are meeting solely for the purpose of gambling. Also once you start getting into higher stakes it can arouse a lot more interest from law enforcement and criminal alike.
