poker obsession
What is this exactly?
My husband has issues with being obsessive or compulsive…but he has a tendency to move from one thing to another. He eats way too much because he loves food. He loves to gamble and put us in some serious debt with that in the past.
When he couldn’t gamble anymore, he decided it was fun just to spend money and run up debt that way…when I took over our finances, he has turned to golf and now golfs at least 2-3 times a week, and when he comes home, he gets on the computer to play poker…
He knows he has obsessions and compulsiveness going on, but what exactly is this? OCD describes counting and other habits, and this doesn’t seem to fit. I would love to find some resources to help him overcome his “weaknesses”…Thanks
It’s called addiction. What you describe is an addicitve personality and your husband, rather then working through issues he may have, will shift his addiction. See if you can get him into a 12 step program such as overeaters anonymous. He is trying to fill a void in himself with substances such as food or activities such as gamebeling and shopping. Good Luck. And while you are at it, there are groups for codependent spouses that help and support them.
