How do I beautify a reception venue on a dime?
We want a simple wedding and we don’t have a lot of time or options. We are looking at private rooms in restaurants to accommodate our small group of about 50 people. I found one restaurant where we would get the entire upstairs and it opens up to a beautiful deck. The inside isn’t as beautiful. It’s dark and a little dingy. It looks like a spot guys would come to play poker. The location is great though and the food is delicious. How would I make this room more inviting? I do not want to just cover everything up in tulle and add pink, I would rather incorporate the restaurant’s decor but just spruce it up a bit. It’s an old-fashioned place that has not probably been renovated since it opened. Everything is wood, brown dominates the room. Forgot to mention: Guests will be seated at long rectangle tables and we would have a sweetheart table.

Oh…this is super easy (and not expensive at all) to do!
Don’t worry about walls, ceilings, etc. People don’t care. They know they are not going to the Ritz Carlton…so be it.
What you want to do is to bring “the eye down”….meaning….just have some nice WHITE tablecloths (to offset all the dark). Then, if allowed, use some candles on the tables.
The long banquet style tables seat about 6-8 (3 on each side and one on each end if needed), so you will only need about 7 or 8 tables. I strongly urge you to invest the money (Ebay is great!) to get real tablecloths. You can resell them if after your wedding if needed. Don’t get the cheap plastic ones at Walmart. If you surf the net, you can find some good deals on real linen tablecloths. That will set an “elegant tone” to the room just with that.
Then, have a nice centerpiece on each table. Here is my very favorite idea (cheap too!) of decorating a long banquet table.

You can buy the candles at Walmart or Michaels and the silk rose petals too! If you don’t like this idea, then use Google and search “cheap wedding candle centerpiece ideas”….you will get lots of ideas.
